Radio operator Isanganiro

Radio operator Isanganiro (Translation: Radio point of meeting ) is a private radio station of the Burundi promoting peace between Hutus and tutsis. It practices the Kirundi, the Swahili and the French.

History

After having obtained the agreement of the National council of Communication (CNC) in June 2002, the station emits in FM starting from the November 18th 2002. The September 13rd 2006 Radio Isanganiro is suspended one week for to have diffused them matter of the rebels of National liberation armies (FNL). The November 28th 2006 Mathias Manirakiza, director of the station, is stopped under the pretext of having disseminated information which can attack the national security. Judged with two members of the African Public radio, he is discharged like them it January 3rd 2007 and is released the following day.

Objectives

Radio Isanganiro seeks to reconcile the Hutus and the tutsis after more than one decade of confrontations in Rwanda, Burundi and as a Democratic republic of Congo. Its currency is Inama Isumba ingimba , i.e. the dialog is better than the force . She also wishes to give impartial information and to promote freedom of the press and freedom of expression.

Programs

The radio emits in three languages: French, kirundi and swahili. She proposes in particular six daily radio news 20 minutes each one, three in French and three in kirundi. Among the emissions are:
  • Aho iwanyu havurwa amaki (" Which are the news at vous"): data transmission in which the listeners give the news of the places that they live.
  • Isanganiro ry' imiryango or " Not meeting of Femmes": emission devoted to the women.
  • Mosaic: discusses with decision makers.

Diffusion
