Radio libertarian

Radio Libertarian is the radio of the Anarchistic Fédération (F) emitting from Paris.

Founded in 1981, it became, well beyond the mediums claiming specifically Anarchisme, an abstract institution of the Parisian Bande FM, so much by its freedom of tone, its original musical programming, and the rare variety of the currents of thought which are expressed there, that by its legendary incurie technical, guarantor finally of its sincerity.

History

The congress of the Anarchistic Federation of May 1981 signed the birth certificate of Radio libertarian . After long and contradictory debates, this congress accepted, unanimously, the idea of the launching of a radio which is the body of F. This radio then did not have yet a name, not of code, not really a project, not of organizers, and for its launching the moderate budget of 15.000 F. Not a congressman, at this moment, could not have predicted the continuation of the events, if it is only with the re-entry, anarchy would be again on the waves. As in 1921, when the insurrectionists of Kronstadt launched radio messages; as in 1936, Spain, with Radio CNT-FAI, or at the time of the participation of anarchists in the movement of the free radios, in France at the end of the Seventies, with in particular Radio-Pavement (with Toulon) and Radio-Alarm, whose organizers were members of the anarchistic Fédération.

September 1st 1981 with 18:00, in a wet cellar of the hillock Montmartre the radio one made its beginnings, in a rudimentary way, under conditions defying the laws of the radio: a studio of 12 m ², with odds and ends of material of recovery, a team of six people. First calls of listeners, first charts of listeners… and the first jammings! During this time, many ex-pioneers of the free radio installed very powerful studios to try to exploit the seam of the band FM expanding. The socialist put, in August 1983, a term with “the anarchy of the waves” by seizing many transmitters, of which that of Radio libertarian.

The August 28th 1983, at dawn, of CRS were presented in front of the buildings of Radio libertarian, smashed the door, and seized the material. Organizers were struck and challenged, the cable of divided antenna and the pylon, in spite of the presence of many listeners. This intervention of the State involved strong reactions, in particular the September 3rd, with a demonstration of 5.000 people, and the réémission of Radio libertarian.

The radio does not touch a subsidy (except bottom of equalization of the band FM), it life of the voluntary help of the organizers, the gifts and the chart of listener.

Radio libertarian, only diffused a long time in Paris region is now world by his diffusion on Internet.

Cultural identity

The cultural identity of the station was built with time. The first organizers brought their discs to the studio and made known artists like Debronckart, Fanon, Servat, Gribouille, Jonasz, Serge Utgé-Royo, Aurenche, Capart and much of others. In 1982 arrived quite naturally on the radio another music, often listened in the squatts, in margin of the system: alternative rock'n'roll. Then other musics found also naturally their place on Radio libertarian: the Jazz, the Blues, the Folk, industrial musics, the Rap, the Reggae. Other artists met the radio which opened with many forms of expressions: Cartoon, Visual arts, Theater, Literature, Cinema etc

Political identity

Means of expression of the anarchistic Federation, Radio libertarian nevertheless initially opened his microphones with his/her friends: anarchist-trade unionists of CNT or other trade unions, Freethinking, pacifist Union, esperantists, the League of the human rights. And there too, it is in daily reality, the fights and the meetings, that created for itself the opening of Radio libertarian towards the social movement: workers in strike, unemployed, badly-housed persons, squatters, antiracists, ecologists, refractories, exiled… Occur of the crises, and the daily work of Radio libertarian is upset by the requirement of the moment.

It is the student movement of 1986, and Radio libertarian becomes radio operator movement: reports in the streets, roundtables in the studio, open antenna to testify to police violences…

When burst the war of the Gulf, Radio libertarian was placed like the radio of the “anti-war”, listening to all RL, which, hour per hour, announced demonstrations, meeting, meetings of the district committees, while proposing debates and analyzes. As naturally, it is in these hot moments as Radio libertarian finds his true dimension of radio of fight. Radio libertarian is also the means for the listeners of protesting against the technical imperfections or of the remarks which one considers incongruous, provocative, too reformists or too radicals.
