Radio UNAMSIL
Radio UNAMSIL is a radio station of the Mission of the United Nations in Sierra Leone. The diffusion is done in English. In 2005 a survey indicated that 94% of the sierra-leonais regarded Radio UNAMSIL as a good information source. It is diffused in Short waves and FM.
History
The station appears the May 22nd 2000. Its equipment, which had already been useful for Radio Minurca, is a gift of the Danish government, only arrived the May 18th at Freetown, the capital. In 2002 the radio one sensitized the population with the behavior of a presidential election. It quickly became the most popular radio station of Sierra Leone. After the departure of the troops of UNO it continues its activity.
Objective
The goal of the station east to offer an alternative to the radios diffusing of the messages of hatred in Sierra Leone, to promote peace and to allow the forces the United Nations to express itself.
Programming
With its beginnings the station diffused especially music. It also launched programs for the children, less than 14 years accounting for 44,8% of the population in 2006.
