Racon
A RACON is a type of Transpondeur radar used commonly to mark the dangers of sea transport, and to help to differentiate the echo S radars if the traffic is dense.
The word is an acronym of RAdar beaCON (Balise Radar). When the RACON receives a Impulsion radar, he answers by emitting on the same frequency a signal which, on the radar screen, leaves an image. This signal is preset to have a form which resembles the writing of the letters of the code Morse (points and features) and directed towards the outside of the screen.
The RACON can be gone up on Phare S, buoy S, oil platforms, etc
Set up on oil platforms it frequently emits the signal U code meaning Morse: You run towards a danger .
