History of the club

The best club of France!

  • Racing Club of Roubaix is founded the April 2nd 1895 while being pressed on former members of Batting Club and French Club.
  • In 1898, the R.C.R., fixed at the Cycle-racing track of Roubaix, finishes second of the championship of North behind the Iris Club Inhabitant of Lille. Between 1900 and 1909, Racing reigns as an absolute master on regional football and even national. Last nine times champion of North, seven times finalist of the championship of France U.S.F.S.A. (1902 with 1908) and five times champion of France U.S.F.S.A. (1902, 1903, 1904, 1906 and 1908) during the first decade of the century, hegemony are total.
  • North is then a fortified town of French football. The R.C.R. is most brilliant representing, but competition is hard with the neighbors of Tourcoing and Lille. The evictions of spectators are then currency.
  • One of the great figures of Racing Club is then Raymond Dubly. This particularly fast left winger (11" with the 100 meters) is international. Also let us quote among most brilliant Racingmen of the gilded time Maurice Vandendriessche, André Renaux, Emile Dusart, Albert Jenicot, Emile Sartorius and André François, all international.
  • Of the five national crowns taken down by Roubaisiens, one will retain especially the first (1902) which was torn off with the Racing Club of France at the end of a match of more than two hours thirty with Prolongation. The following season, always vis-a-vis the Parisian Penguins, the title disputes into two matches, the first which has not been able to give of winner in spite of long prolongations. At the stage of the Iris Club Inhabitant of Lille, Roubaisiens are essential then 3-1.
  • In 1904, the Parisian ones of United S.C are swept 4-2 finally, but the players of the capital are avenged the following season while triumphing over the Racing Club of France finally, after prolongation; it is the Gallia Club Paris which signs this exploit.
  • As of spring 1906, Roubaisiens recover their national crown finally by humiliating Racing Club of France, 4-1. The Penguins take their revenge the following season while having Blue Sky and Black finally, 3-2.
  • Third national final U.S.F.S.A.R.C. Roubaix-R.C. France the May 3rd 1908. Parisian Matthey opens the score well as of the 6th minute, but it is Roubaix which asserts finally 2-1 thanks to the goals of Renal and François.
  • will have It of Roubaisiens exceeds the limits of the Hexagon quickly. Beaten 3-1 by Léopold Brussels in International Challenge of North 1898, Racing multiplies international confrontations, beating even adversaries English amateurs since 1905.
  • the last seasons of pre-war period are on the other hand more puffing for Blue Sky and Black. Eclipse by the U.S. Tourcoing and the Olympique Inhabitant of Lille, Roubaix avoids even little relegation in Promotion.

The Inter-war period

  • the Great War is particularly terrible for Racing Club which sees 85 as of its members falling to the field from honor. In spite of this bleeding, Racing quickly finds its gloss of antan while being crowned Champion of North in 1921, 1923 and 1925. One of the large leaders of Racing of the inter-war period is Georges Verriest which made all its career there. Also let us quote Marcel Vanco (ex- C.A.P.), Gerard Isbecque, Wattine Raymond and Edmond Leveugle, without forgetting Raymond Dubly, obviously.
  • In Coupe de France, Racing Club reaches the quarterfinals in 1923, before taking down a place of finalist in 1932. After having flown over the test by marking 17 goals of the 32es of finale to the semi-finals without boxing only one of them, the ultimate meeting of the edition 1932 vis-a-vis the ACE Cannes is not a great match. Roubaisiens play particularly badly and box the only goal of the match on a coarse defensive error.
  • As of the following season, one finds Racing Club finally Cut. Racing is then still amateur (Georges Verriest is savagely opposed to the statute pro) and draws aside three clubs pros to reach the final.
  • Racingmen find then their neighbors of the Excelsior for an special edition of the Coupe de France putting at the catches clubs same provincial town. Notable difference of preparation, the pros of Excelsior arrive in Ile-de-France two days before the match. The amateurs of Racing Club do not arrive that the morning of the meeting…
  • By three goals with one, Excelsior takes a lead in Racing Club. Of return to Roubaix, the two teams are lengthily celebrated. In the tread of this second consecutive failure finally, Racing crosses the rubicon and adopts the professional statute.
  • If the R.C.R. reaches the stage of the semi-finals of the Coupe de France in 1934, falling (1-0) vis-a-vis the Olympique from Marseilles, it is with the sorrow in championship. Joining the elite in 1936, three disappointing seasons in Division 1 before the war supplement the copious prize list of Racing.

Fusion CORT

  • Joining the CO Roubaix-Tourcoing in 1945, the R.C.R. is put in sleep, its section amateur ensuring the perpetuation of the prestigious name. After the abandonment of the statute pro of the C.O.R.T in 1963, the R.C.R. finds its independence.
  • the June 24th 1964, Racing amalgamates with the Stage Roubaisien (other very large old of football roubaisien), under the name of Racing Stade Roubaisien. The presidency is taken by the impossible to circumvent Georges Verriest.
Incompetent to leave the national bosom, the Stage is combined with his old rival always Excelsior, renamed him also, to give rise to the S.C.O.R. After six years of union, it is again the divorce.
