Racers of Indianapolis
The Racers of Indianapolis was a frankness from the old league of Hockey in North America: the Worldwide association of hockey (AMH). The team made her beginnings in 1974.
History
The team played during five seasons in the AMH before dissolving in 1978-79 after 25 matches. The skating rink of Racers was located at Indianapolis in the Indiana (the United States) and named Market Square Arena .The team is especially known to have been the first professional club of Wayne Gretzky even if this last will have played final only 8 matches with Racers before being resold with the Oilers d' Edmonton of the AMH. Indeed, the general president of Racers was then afraid to have paid too expensive the young wonder.
The best season of Racers was in 1976-77 where the team finishes third of her division and reaches the eliminatory Séries and will pass even a turn by sweeping the Stingers of Cincinnati 4 matches 0, before losing with the turn according to 4 matches with 1 against the Nordiques of Quebec (future winners).
Honors
In 1976, Michel Dion, guard of Racers receives the Trophée Ben Hatskin better guard of Association.
