Race X

The Race X is a Race Extraterrestre which appears in the Série of video game Half-Life . Race X appears during the incidental of Black Mesa a few hours after the teleportation of Gordon Freeman on Xen, few things show through about it but it seems that its goal is to invade the Ground. Race X appears only in Half-Life: Opposing Forces where it is fought by Adrian Shephard.

Species

Pit Drone

The Pit Drones are the first representatives of Race X met in the play. They are small biped creatures with the green skin. The top of the head carries several large spines and, around the mouth is kinds of Appendice S.

The two arms of the Pit Drone end in long claws with the paces of false which it uses to attack. Rapid and rather intelligent, the Pit Drones act as group of five or six in order to surround and to overflow their prey. They have two types of attack: to attack remotely by projecting the spines on their head or to sink towards the target to strike blows of claws to him. Certain Pit Drones seem unable to attack by projecting their spines and, can be for this reason, do not have the same aspect as the others.

Shock Trooper

Shock Troopers are creatures humanoïdes with four arms and a posture vaguely pointing out that of Vortigaunts. Their skin is of a pale blue, their head has one eye and carries four tentacles around the mouth.

Shock Troopers are often gathered in small groups, combatant often at the sides of other extraterrestrial of Race X. Shock Troopers pushes strange noises (resembling electronic sounds) to communicate between them. With a little experiment, the player can learn how to recognize some of his “sentences” launched by the creatures before an attack and to act consequently.

They controls a technology of teleportation which they use to enter or leave the zone of combat. They control also the teleportation of the Pit Drones and Voltigores. It should be noted that at one time, the player observes Shock Trooper seizing scientfique before téléporter with, a manner of effective removal.

Their principal weapon is called Shockroach, a biological weapon which points out that of the Alien Grunts and which it carries on their arm lower right. Shockroach is an alive creature which draws from the balls of energy and which is reloaded constantly all alone. When its Shock Trooper dies, Shockroach is detached and tackled the threat in the same way as crabs of head. Shock Troopers can also spit of the spores to attack the distant enemies.

The babies Shock Troopers resemble tétards with only a ête and a trunk with tentacles trailing with the back. In addition to their small size and their absence of members, the babies Shock Troopers have gills and two small eyes. They are Amphibians and cannot move out of water. The babies Shock Troopers can launch the same type of spore that the adults and one of them is used by Shephard as arms.

Voltigore

Voltigores, which should not be confused with the Vortigaunt S, are imposing creatures which are used as heavy infantry with the extraterrestrial race. They have four legs and two arms which end in claws in form of forgery, and carry stripes crimsons on their large carapace. These creatures have the capacity to use electricity to carry out dangeureuses attacks. With the close combat, they prefers to attack with their claws. With its death, its carapace explodes, wounding the creatures neighborhood.

The youthful form of these extraterrestrial is met later in the play. Smaller and weaker, of a clearer color and still incompetent to carry out the energy attack, the Voltigores babies are present only in the nests hidden in the undergrounds and under the close guard of the adults.

Pit WORM

Met in the Center of Reprocessing of Waste of Black Mesa, this dangerous creature resembles a gigantic worm a little. Its body is segmented, each segment carrying a small pair of ventral legs griffues (perhaps used for displacement). In the last segments, the small pair of leg is replaced by a pair of large side legs and the last segment carries two large maxillipedes. At the end of the segments is a head with a enormous eye and two large Crochet S on the level of the mouth.

The eye of the creature is also its weapon principal, able to shoot a beam from energy at its enemies. If the enemy is too close, WORM attacks with its maxillipedes (which are in the shape of grip). If the Pit WORM is wounded with the eye, it moves back, being protected with its claws a few seconds before counteracting aggressively.

In the play, the Pit WORM plays a part of obstacle similar to the passage with the Tentacules of Half-Life , the player who cannot eliminate it by the conventional methods but by using the resources of its environment.

WORM gene

The WORM Gene is the final Boss of Half-Life: Opposing Forces , and the most mysterious entity of Race X. This creature is the equivalent of one. The WORM Gene is able to exploit any shape of natural resources of the Earth and to assimilate it for the needs for its race. If one of them managed to entirely cross the gate towards the Earth and to take up duty, it would deteriorate sufficiently planet to transform it into a second hearth for Race X.

Physically, the WORM Gene resembles a vermiform green creature with many tentacles. The head has a kind of nozzle to the projection and the position similar to that of the Tentacles of Xen, two yellow eyes side, and a mouth surrounded by two small hooks and of two species of mandibles. The WORM Gene attacks with its tentacles and its mouth can spit dangerous a biotoxine.

The WORM Gene is in what seems to be an industrial sector given up in the lower stages of Black Mesa and appears by a large gate open in a part, that it has apparently of the evil to entirely cross. Guns laser supplied with crystals of energy of Xen is laid out on each side of the part. Adrian Shephard is descended towards the WORM Gene by an security guard from Black Mesa which makes the remark that “. ” These soldiers just succeeded has to mount the heavy weapons visible in front of the gate before their probable death, although no trace of their body is met.

Its skin being very resistant and insensitive with the attacks, the player must plug the creature while drawing in its two eyes with guns laser laid out on the two sides of the WORM Gene. That obliges it to take again forces by opening its abdominal cavity, revealing a sphere of energy by which Shock Trooper téléporte. The player can inflict heavy internal damage with the WORM Gene while drawing on this sphere.

Sprite

Taking the aspect of a ball of light, Sprites are creatures which can be seen floating through Black Mesa on several occasions and more and more frequently in the last levels of the play. Sprites cannot wound the player and the player cannot wound them. These creatures sometimes even seem to guide the player, moving thereafter all worms the gate by which arrives the WORM Gene, and acting apparently as conducting of energy to activate the gate which connects the two worlds. It is not known if it is indeed of living being or a technology of Race X.
