The word rabbit is a very general term which indicates certain species of Mammifère S with large ears of the family of the léporidés . This animal being very present in the popular symbolic system, its name is largely used for various places or people. Many famous fictitious characters are also rabbits.

The animal

The rabbits have a silhouette less hurled than that of the Lièvre S; contrary to the latter they are born blind and naked and must thus remain hidden in a nest during more than one week before leaving to the free air. The Lapin domesticates is now high in the whole world.

The denomination of rabbit changes according to the cases:

  • the “conil” is the rabbit in the old texts,
  • the “lapine” is the Femelle domestic rabbit.
