Rabbets

Guillaumes is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure. Its inhabitants is the Guillaumois .

Geography

The village is built with the junction of the Var and the Tuébi. It is dominated by a spur over which is the ruins of an old castle. A small portion of the skiable field of the station of Valberg (tracks of Vasson and Barzès), are on the commune of Rabbets.

The village constitutes the main door of the valley of Entraunes.

History

Place of life as of the Neolithic era, as the vestiges testify some to the cave of Tremens in the small valley to Lays or the copper mines of the throats of Daluis, exploited by the prehistoric men. It is Guillaume the liberator, Count de Provence, by guerroyant in the area against buckwheats, which located the strategic interest of the site and founded, at the 10th century the " Castrum de Guillermo". As of its Guillaumes foundation was attached to the clean field of the counts de Provence. The castle was rested by the Count of Provence Raymond Béranger V during first half of the 13th century, probably between 1233 and 1235. The agglomeration was founded with its continuation about 1235-1240, as a new city and with the site where see we it today. To the 14th century, in recognition of their fidelity, the house of Anjou grants to the inhabitants, thousand favors and privileges, of which capacity to manage themselves freely by elected consuls, to organize markets and fairs, exemption of the fouage, size, dime… The Jeanne Queen even authorizes it to carry her colors in her armorial bearings and the right never not to be alienated royal field. In 1388, the guillaumois remain faithful to Anjou. In 1390, Guillaumes is indicated by Marie of Blois, countess of Own way, as place chief of viguery. At the end of the 15th century, the count of Provence Rene 1st of Anjou, King de Naples, adds to the castle the circular keep, symbol of his capacity. In 1481, because of the fastening of Provence in France, following the will of Charles of Maine, Guillaumes becomes French enclave in the Sardinian states and consequently its military importance nothing but did be confirmed with the wire centuries. François 1st grants the title of royal city to him. August 22nd, 1682 the village is destroyed partially by a fire. From 1700 to 1706, new fortifications are carried out by Vauban which remained several times at Guillaumes to establish the plans of them. the 1760 place is dismantled following the treaty of March 24th, 1760 rectifying the borders between the kingdoms of Louis XV and of Charles-Emmanuel III, Guillaumes is yielded to the house of Savoy and the castle is dismantled in spite of the revolt of its inhabitants. 1792, the revolutionary troops take possession of the village which consequently will undergo during years of the successive invasions as well of the French troops as Sardinian. The revolution finished, after a short return under Sardinian sovereignty, Rabbets as the county of Nice east, thanks to the action of Napoleon III, definitively attached to France, on March 24th, 1860.
