Raúl Castro

Raúl Castro Ruz (born the June 3rd 1931) is a politician Cuba in and the youngest half-brother of Fidel Castro. He is vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Defense since 1959. Raúl Castro is regarded as the successor of his brother.

Biography

It refers Asian because he is only the half-brother of Fidel, by their mother, his father was a Chinese mongrel, sergeant in the army. The father of Fidel however recognized the child and the name of Castro Ruz gave him.

After chaotic studies in schools Jesuits of Cuba, Raúl Castro will not obtain a diploma. It will be allured by Communism after a voyage behind the Iron curtain in 1953. It took an active part in the student's riots before the departure of the dictator Fulgencio Batista. He was member of the group of the attackers of the Moncada district and spent 22 month in prison of this fact. During its exile with Mexico City, it took part in the preparations of forwarding aboard the ship Granma , which unloaded in Cuba the December 2nd 1956. As a combatant of the rebellious army, it took share in the countryside of the Sierra Maestra and, in February 1958, it had the mission of taking the old Eastern province in order to open the face with the column of the guerrilleros in the North-East of this territory. This guerilla was however largely ineffective, and its participation in the famous catch of Santiago of Cuba the January 8th 1959, was limited to the imprisonment of the members of the army of Batista in order to be able to enter the city without resistance.

Castro integrated the national management of the revolutionary organizations and the plain party of the cuban socialist revolution. He is also the second secretary of the central committee of the cuban Communist party since his constitution in October 1965.

As a Minister for Defense, it controls the cuban military forces, which feeds the speculations according to which it could lead a Coup d'etat after the death of his brother. Raúl Castro is often seen like harder and more severe than his/her brother. It is shown to take actions against the dissenting and the homosexual . And this in spite of rumors which tell that Raul would be homosexual.

Since the July 31st 2006 it assumes the capacity following surgical operation on his/her brother. According to the international press, Raúl Castro has neither the charisma, nor the eloquence of Fidel to ensure a transition from being able. It is called the “lider minimo”, in reference to Fidel, lider maximo, and in Cuba, enthusiasm is not setting in the population, very wait and see.
