RTNC1

RTNC1 is the public Television channel national Congolese.

History of the chain

The single Zairean television channel , baptized OZRT (Zairean Office of broadcasting and television), is born in 1976. It holds the monopoly of television until the period of initiated democratization in April 1990 and which is at the origin of a flowering of private television channels, to start with Antenne has which breaks the monopoly of the OZRT in 1993. The law of liberalization of the media, voted by the Parliament of Transition on June 22nd 1996, consolidates this irrefutable fact and makes it possible many commercial and denominational chains private to hatch a little everywhere in the country.

With the come to power of the ADFL of Laurent-Desired Kabila in 1997, the country is renamed as well as the television channel which becomes RTNC (Congolese Radio-Télévision national) on May 17th, then RTNC1 in March 1999, following the creation of one second public television channel, RTNC2.

To face the competition of private televisions, the authorities proceed to the technical re-equipment of the RTNC, ever renewed since its creation in 1976, thanks to a program which extends until in province. It also signs a contract with the France for the training of the journalists and technicians ensured by the Congolese Institute of audio-visual (ICA), subsidiary of the RTNC.

The diffusion of RTNC1 on the main cities of the country, stopped for technical reasons beginning 2004, took again in November of the same year following the support brought to RTNC by the Italian company Teleconsult.

The High ranking authority of media (HAM) retained against the RTNC1 a preferential treatment at the place of the candidate-president Joseph Kabila with the presidential ballot and suspended the chain of cover of this presidential campaign for 72 hours. The decision of Ham is based on the law n°06/006 of bearing March 9th, 2006 organization of the elections presidential, legislative, provincial, urban, municipal and local which does not recognize with anybody, was it a public authority, a promoter or a godfather of media the right to misuse it with its own way, by despizing principle of equality between the candidates.
