RTL Television

RTL Television is a Television channel private general practitioner German of origin luxembourgoise.

History of the chain

The decision to create a German television channel was made in 1983 by Gust Graas, Luxembourg managing director of CLT, group with the Franco-Belgian shareholding, and its German partner Bertelsmann. The project RTL More could be carried out thanks to the presence of two distinct teams to the Villa Louvigny, seat historical of CLT. On the one hand, a band of expatriates of in addition to-Moselle, who carried out with Luxembourg with great success the German program of RTL Radio, and on the other hand, of the technicians having an almost thirty year experiment in the audio-visual one since launching in 1955 of RTL Television. Bertelsmann, today owner of RTL Group, and which sought at the time being established in television in Germany, thus joins CLT to reach its know-how as regards television. This one laid out then with Gust Graas, the man of the programs, and Jules Felten, the financier, of a very strong leadership team.

RTL More starts to emit in German the January 2nd 1984 with 17:27 since the channel VHF E07 (182-189 MHz) STAKE B of the transmitting Dudelange to the Luxembourg. In a studio of television to Bertrange, two men rather hairy and so young sat in a bath-tub, carrying the funny ones of diving goggles: they are the first images of RTL More. The chain touches by hertzian way only approximately 200.000 people with the Grand-Duché and in the surrounding German-speaking areas (the Saar, the Rhineland…), like in Lorraine, but with a less quality of image, until Nancy.

In 1988, RTL More moves its seat with Cologne in Germany in order to obtain German government of the hertzian frequencies for the diffusion of the chain on all the federal territory. The chain loses its Luxembourg statute then and becomes fully a German television channel. Become profit since 1990, it is renamed RTL Television the October 31st 1992.

RTL Television is today the television channel leader of RTL Group which also has in Germany RTL II, Super RTL VOX, N-TV.

She celebrated her 20 years the January 2nd 2004 and knows since the end of 2004 variation in Croatia, RTL Televizija.
