History of the station

Radio-Luxembourg, the honourable ancestor

Since 1931, Radio Luxembourg had a transmitter in long waves installed with Junglinster with the Grand-Duché of Luxembourg. This one was the only private radio captable in French in the North of the Europe and singularly in France and Belgium. Today, the three masts of Beidweiler (set up in 1970) are used for the transmission.

In 1964, the startup of new a transmitting long waves makes Radio Luxembourg one of the most powerful stations of the world. This transmitting which has just been inaugurated has a radiated apparent power of 4.450 Kilowatt S is 17 times the power of which the station in 1932 laid out. The range of the listening of Radio Luxembourg is some considerably increased. Reports/ratios of foreign correspondents of the press, make state that hearing was very good Northern of the Europe to the Mediterranean basin. Trawlers which sinned with 500 kilometers with broad of the Brittany could collect Radio Luxembourg under good conditions.

The station emits since its studios of the Villa Louvigny with the Park of Luxembourg of the March 15th 1933 with the September 21st 1939, then of 1945 with 1966.

RTL

The radio is renamed RTL on October 11th 1966 by Jean Prouvost and completely changes formula to always adopt a more modern and convivial tone with the antenna today. RTL is most popular of the French radio stations. Since the beginning of the years 1980, it remains the 1st radio of France in term of audience (except with the beginning of the year 2000 when it was made briefly precede by the station NRJ). The station emits in Long waves (234 Khz). From 1986 it emits in Frequency modulation (104,3 MHz in Paris) and develops in network in all France.

In 2005, RTL was the 1st radio to make available the majority of its emissions in Podcast.

The October 8th 2007, RTL and the sporting daily newspaper the Team, launched a new radio devoted to the sport and which will be proposed, initially, on the Net only. Baptized RTL the Team, it is diffused on the sites the equipe.fr , rtl.fr and RTL-the equipe.fr , a priori until the month of March 2008, time for RTL to obtain a new frequency to diffuse it elsewhere than on Internet.
