History of the chain

Since 1955, TV-Luxembourg, become RTL Television in 1982, is diffused since the transmitting Dudelange to the Luxembourg captable in all the the Belgian Ardennes. Following the collision of a Belgian military aircraft with this transmitter on July 31st 1981, CLT obtains in compensation of the Belgian government the lifting of the public monopoly on television and the authorization to then diffuse its program on the network of cable television by cable under development full.

RTL Television thus proposes on the channel UHF STAKE 27, as of on September 12th 1983, in unhooking of the Franco-Luxembourg program, the emissions especially intended for the Belgian public, like the belgized version of the JTL presented by Jean-Charles De Keyser, Eddy de Wilde and Bibiane Godfroid or the emission Tête with head with Philippe Soreil and Frederique Ries, carried out since the small studios of the Villa Roosevelt with Brussels. CLT transforms in December 1985 its local office in Brussels into editor of service baptized TVI S.A., public limit company of Belgian right which produces the specifically Belgian programs of RTL Television and markets the advertizing screens which are diffused there. TVI means independent Télévision , in order to mark its difference vis-a-vis the public network RTBF.

The Belgian channel of RTL Television takes its independence on September 12th 1987 with launching by CLT of RTL-TVI which produces from now on all its programs in Brussels. It is the first private channel in French Communauté of Belgium and its conventionality by the government of the French community on December 21st, 1987 gives access to him legally the Belgian televised advertizing market (via its subsidiary company IPB). This situation of monopoly is broken in 1989, when the Government authorizes commercial publicity on the antennas of RTBF.

October 3rd 2005, the board of directors of TVI S.A. unanimously decided not to ask for the renewal of its authorization of emission in the capacity as television of the French Communauté of Belgium for RTL-TVi and Club RTL. The European directive Télévision without borders stipulates that the televisual emissions are subjected to the competence of only one Member State. TVI S.A. had of a license of Luxembourg diffusion and an authorization of 9 years emission of the French Communauté of Belgium expired in December 2005. To put itself in conformity with the directive, RTL-TVI thus did not renew its Belgian authorization at the request of its principal shareholder, CLT-UFA, which made a point of preserving its radiation of European audio-visual group at the beginning of the Luxembourg. TVI S.A. preserves its operational seat and its studios in Belgium with Brussels and was committed continuing to assume all the commitments entered into near the Superior council of the Audio-visual Belgian, but on the basis of voluntariate, which enables him where necessary to be freed from the constraints to contribute to the development of the cinema, and in particular with the independent production in the French Community, to respect the whole of the relative tendencies to descriptive televisual, the protection of the minors or the advertizing limitations, except for the rules envisaged in right European and transposed in the Luxembourg substantive law. SCUMS all the same condemned RTL-TVI to 500.000 € of fine, on November 29th, 2006, for diffusion without authorization. The Council of State confirmed this decision of SCUMS on March 16th 2007.

At the beginning of January 2007, Fadila Laanan, Minister for Audio-visual for the French Communauté of Belgium announced to be ready with a compromise on the Luxembourg nationality asserted by RTL-TVI in exchange of the guarantee of the execution by this one of the obligations which the French Community imposes on its broadcasters as well as regards protection of the minors as of promotion of cultural diversity.

The January 8th 2007, RTL-TVi and all the activities of TVI S.A. left the buildings of the ARIANE avenue to move in to the 2 of the Georgin avenue to Schaerbeek, in the new buildings of RTL House located between the avenue Georgin, the Grosjean avenue, the Mommaerts avenue and the roadway of Leuwen, especially built to shelter all the radio stations and of television of the group.

Since this beginning 2007, RTL-TVi develops its various Internet sites (Radio & tele), which allows since mid-July reaching 3 flashes of information in images over the day, 10,12 and 15:00 and reaching complete information. One can find also there the Internet site http://www.alinfini.be which allows to the Net surfers podcaster free the emissions and of réecouter the radio broadcasts (and soon television programs).
