RKO Pictures

RKO Pictures is oldest of the American companies independent of production of films of cinema.

It was created in 1928 by the fusion of the network of rooms Keith-Albee-Orpheum ( KAO ), of the company of Joseph P. Kennedy Film Booking Offices off America ( FBO ) and of the Radio Corporation off America ( RCA ). It is called then RKO Corporation (Radio-Keith-Orpheum RKO meaning). In 1930, the company absorbs the Pathé studios and is renamed RKO-Pathe Studios .

It is repurchased by the billionaire Howard Hughes in 1948.

In 1957, the actress Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz repurchase it and attach it to their studio Desilu. Then in 1968, it is absorbed by the Paramount.

Its logo is a transmitter on a terrestrial sphere.

During the golden age of Hollywood, RKO left close to a film per week. Among the artists then under contract with the company, one can quote Ingrid Bergman, Bette Davis, John Ford, Katherine Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock, Cary Grant, Robert Mitchum and Orson Welles. Among films produced by RKO, one can quote Citizen Kane , King Kong , the life is beautiful (1946) , the Uneven one of Notre-Dame , We gained this evening and of many musical comedies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. RKO distributed also first films of Walt Disney: Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs and Fantasia for example.

After the crisis period of the Years 1980, RKO redéveloppa in the Years 1990 by signing new agreements of distribution and by revalorizing its catalog.
