RIP Kirby is the title of a cartoon, and the name of the character éponyme, created in 1946 by Alex Raymond. __TOC

The cartoon

With the return of the second world war, Alex Raymond does not continue his work on his former cartoons, who fûrent crowned success ( Flash Gordon , Jungle Jim , Secret agent X-9 ). Instead of that, it started to work on a new data base with like main character, a private detective and former serviceman of the marine. The cartoon started to be published daily in the American press on March 4th, 1946 and was immediately an enormous success. Raymond was rewarded by a Reuben Award for his work on this data base

Alex Raymond worked in collaboration with Fred Dickenson, the stories were crééent by King Features Syndicate with the editions Ward Greene.

In 1956, Alex Raymond was killed in an car accident. The King Features Syndicate needed a substitute quickly and found it in the person of John Prentice. Dickenson continued to be a scenario writer until the middle of the years 1980, when it was forced to withdraw itself for health reasons. Prentice taken the changing for the writing of the scenario. Prentice worked on the data base until its death in 1999. The data base finished with RIP with the retirement on June 28th, 1999. Prentice received the price National Cartoonist Society Story Comic into 1966,1967 and 1986 for its work on this data base

During every year RIP Kirby, many draftsmen and scenario writers took part in the data base, in particular Frank Bolle (which finished the last episode), Al Williamson, Gray Morrow, and Neal Adams.

RIP Kirby

RIP (diminutive of Remington) Kirby is a private detective and Officier Captain reservist of the US Navy. He is an elegant man of forty years. He carries glasses with black mountings and smokes the pipe. He likes the cognac and listens to classical music. He plays the golf and conduit of the sporting cars. This gentleman flies to the help of pretty young women in distress. He also helps the police force to solve mysterious enigmas.

Edmond

Edmond, the majordomo of RIP. It is English. It made reprehensible acts in its past. He reconverted himself as a perfect majordomo He helps RIP at the time of his investigations.

Muguette Dorian

Muguette Dorian, been engaged of RIP. It takes part in fashion shows as a mannequin.
