RFM

RFM is a musical French private radio of category D. It belongs to the group Lagardere Active since 1994.

History of the radio

RFM is created in June 1981 by Patrick Meyer and Sam Bernett. The initials RFM have a significance in marketing: Récence, Frequency, Amount. This station was most professional of the free radios of 1981 to 1983, in spite of an antenna occupied primarily by voluntary and initial organizers. Under the control of Patrick Meyer, creator of Radio 7, Coluche animates a mythical emission there. The station is based on the second floor of the shopping mall of Vélizy (Yvelines). Militant very actively for the introduction of publicity to the antenna, the " radio couleur" during 423 days as from November 1983 was scrambled. A disc of support " Radio brouillée" was engraved at RCA; words of Dominique GAUZE (GOZZI) and music of Jean Jacques ANSELMI and Roger CHICKEN. The transmitter was so powerful that RFM was however heard without problem of Rouen to Rheims. The jammers intramurally occulted only Paris… RFM gained finally this combat against the French authorities.

RFM proposed at its beginnings a format Classic Rock, then evolved to a format of young adult as of the end of the year 1980, after the departure of Patrick Meyer. In 1989, the station is repurchased by the English group Crown Communication and will be called then " RFM radio operator FM". In 1994, after having failed to be repurchased by NRJ Group, it integrates the Lagardere group. The employees, taken along by Andrew Manderstam and Frederic Schlesinger will take part besides in the plan of continuation.

RFM must be a new identity. Two projects exist then: to transform the radio operator rock'n'roll into radio of French songs (project taken along by the " team; of Latine" Wave; in Marseilles), or to propose a format of radio " gold" , defended by Lagardere and her representative of then, Eric Elissalde. It is the latter project which will be finally adopted after studies.

Is born " then; RFM, the radio in or". The preparing of antenna for the voices is entrusted to Tom Novembre which will make the beautiful days of this format until àu departure of Frederic Schlesinger and the arrival of Christophe Sabot, defector of NRJ.

This one will judge " the radio in or" without developmental perspective. It makes evolve/move the format by taking again old a " claim" from Europe 2: " The best of the musique".

Today, the slogan of the radio is " the best of the Eighties with aujourd'hui". In 2006,2 600.000 listeners RFM listen each day. The morning of RFM (6h-9h), is animated since 2005 by Jean-Luc Reichmann. Bruno Roblès animates the ends of the afternoon (16h-19h until June 2006 and 17:00 - 20h as from on September 3rd).

December 2006: launching of the first webradio RFM: " RFM Night Fever". Since, two news webradio increased the offer: " RFM Party 80" and " RFM Coils 80".
