RAID (police force)

The RAID is a unit of elite of the National police force French. The name is selected in reference to the word “raid” indicating a military attack, but received by Retro-acronymie the direction Recherche Assistance Intervention Dissuasion .

Founded in 1985 by Robert Broussard in particular, his role is to act in the crisis situations, of the type taken hostages, exaggerated or arrest of high-risk criminals, but also the fight against terrorism and within this framework, of the operations of spinning mill, observation and information on individuals or groups likely to devote themselves to terrorist activities on the French territory.

The Raid is in particular known for the arrest of the chiefs of Direct action in 1987, the release of the children taken as an hostage by a man called HB in 1993 or the intervention against the islamist ones of GIA to Roubaix in 1996.
