R. Giskard Reventlov

The character

R. Giskard Reventlov is a robot appearing in several stories of Isaac Asimov. Of rudimentary aspect, he is “the friend” of R. Daneel Olivaw. He accompanies the inspector Elijah Baley in one by his investigations into Aurora in the Robots of the paddle .

Thereafter, in the Robots and the empire it helps R.Daneel to invent a news law of fundamental robotics: Law zero. a robot cannot harm humanity, nor to leave humanity in danger. It with the faculty of telepathy, which enables him to be left many delicate situations. It is blocked after having allowed that the Earth is contaminated by the radioactivity, not knowing if law zero were respected. Little before blocking itself, it programs R.Daneel so that it inherits its telepathic functions.
