The R' B (also spelled RnB , R&B ) or R&B/Hip-Hop (as indicates it the American magazine of reference Billboard) is a Musical genre appeared in the middle of the Années 1990, born from the meeting between the Hip-hop, from a side, and the Funk and the Soul, other (the Americans also speak about Contemporary R&B ).
It is Teddy Riley, the creator of the New jack swing which officially announced the death of the above mentioned current in 1994 coinciding with the birth of the hip-hop-drunk person (with Mary J. Blige, the " Queen off Hip-Hop/Soul" produced at the time by Puff Daddy), also called heavy R&B and today quite simply R&B or Contemporary R&B (the term R&B being synonymous with popular music Afro-American with the E. - U.) or Hip-Hop/R&B.
RnB is a musical style created before very making dance, even if one finds there also many ballades.
RnB was preceded by the New jack swing and still front, by the Urban in the Années 1980, this last term being also still used in the United States to indicate this musical genre.
RnB however does not form part of the movement Hip-hop, the Rap fear often invite singers to interpret their refrains in their pieces, and those launched out in solo (an good example is that of Ashanti), this is why there are more singers than singers in the rnb. One can note that many singers are influenced by the movement Girl Power (Beyoncé, etc). The manner of singing RnB is directly resulting from the Soul and the Gospel.
At the beginning thus, the musics resembled the pieces of Rap (but with melody verses and either of the rap), then little by little, the rnb invented its own style, and by the continuation the rap used musics of style rnb (Ja Rule for example). It is difficult to catalog certain artists Rap or RnB (Black Eyed Peas, Eve, Lauryn Hill).
Initially meeting a success near DJ and a public of experts (Aaliyah: Back And Forth , Brandy: I Wanna Be Down , Zhané: Groove Thang …), the first RnB successes arrive to France in first half of the Années 1990 with in particular Boyz II Men: I' L Make Coils To You , Shanice: I Coils Your Smile , and even the Frenchwomen of Native: If the life requires that , then again in 1996 and 1997 (R. Kelly: I Believe I Edge Fly , Blackstreet: No Diggity , Sails about It: Don' T Let Go (Coils) , Usher: U Make Me Wanna , Shola Ama: You' Re the one I coils ).
Then the first business successes arrived and the R&B was more and more diffused with the radio (In France, the radio Fun Radio called this music the Groove): Usher: You Make Me Wanna (1997), Brandy & Monica: The Servant boy Is Mine , Faith Evans : Coils Like This , Des' ree: Life in 1998, and 1999: Destiny's Child: Bills, Bills, Bills , TLC: No Scrubs , then “white” singers developed a new style pop containing RnB: Jennifer Lopez: If you had my coils , Christina Aguilera: Genie In has Bottle . (NB: Even Britney Spears will call later upon the famous producers, the Neptunes, on its I' m has Slavic 4 U to have a sound more RnB and to break its image of wise girl, with all that implies because the RnB rhyme often with clips Sexy). A whole wave of artists pop influenced by the RnB will follow, with artists such as Pink, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado or Natasha Bedingfield.)
RnB then truly exploded and the French also launched out in the adventure (already Tribal Jam had sung New jack in French!).
This music touches generally more one adolescent public that an adult public. The Vidéo-clip S often comprise Chorégraphie S Hip-hop.
The ballades rnb are called slow fox trot jams (whose origin is the " kind; Calm Storm" of Smokey Robinson and Isley Brothers, also called " Adult Contemporary"). Certain artists are specialized in this style such as Brian McKnight, Babyface, Jagged Edge, 112, Gerald Levert, Keith Sweat or Kenny Lattimore. Certain pieces of Usher and R. Kelly also return in this radio operator format.
Later a derived kind, the 2-Step appeared, in England, with artists like Artful Dodger, Craig David or Put-Teeq .
A style very close to the rnb is what is called the Nu drunk person (or Neo Soul), which more constitutes a return to the sources of the Soul music, such as it was before being reliftée by the Hip-hop, and aims at a public much more adult and expert. In France, this kind does not have a big hit near the general public but obtains on the other hand an important recognition near criticisms. Its principal figures are Erykah Badu, Maxwell, D' Angelo, Musiq Soulchild and Jill Scott.
