Río of Plata
The río of Plata (which one can translate by river of Money into French, but the Spanish name is more often used) is the Estuaire created by the Río Paraná and the Río Uruguay, forming on the Atlantic coast South American a 290 km length notch ( muesca ) triangular.
Geography
It runs of the North-West to south-east, measures 48 km broad at the point origin (where the two rivers are transformed into estuary). Where it changes at sea of Argentina, which belongs to the Atlantic Ocean, it measures 219 km broad. Little before it formed of the right-sided (Argentinian) the Baie of Samborombón, site Ramsar since 1997.It marks the border between Argentina and the Uruguay. It sprinkles two principal ports: Buenos Aires in south-west, and Montevideo in the North-East.
Each year, are carted towards the estuary 57 million m ³ of Sédiment S coming from the provinces of the north of the Argentine and the south of the Brésil. The sea route from the Atlantic to Buenos Aires is maintained open by means of a continuous dredging.
History
The river was seen by the Européens for the first time in 1516, when the Spanish sailor Juan Díaz de Solís discovered it during his search for a passage between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. He and a group of its men unloaded in the current department of Uruguyan of Colonia and was attacked by the natives (probably of the Guaraní although one thought a long time of the Charrúas ). Only a foam 14 years, Francisco del Puerto, survived.
Years later, a ship ordered by Sebastián Gaboto arrived in the estuary of the river of Money and they found Francisco del Puerto after having beaten (and probably massacred) the Charrúas which held it then. Francisco turned over then to Spain and described the estuary. Later, it set out again towards Uruguay, but did not leave any trace.
The first European colony was the town of Buenos Aires, founded by Pedro de Mendoza the abandoned February 2nd 1536 then following the attacks of the Indians populating the area, and founded again by Juan de Garay the June 11th 1580. The sector was also a stopover for the fleet of Francis Drake in 1588 for its round the world tour.
