Río Mendoza

Río which traverses the province of Mendoza in Argentine and whose storing reservoir is nourished in the tops of the Andes cordillera, ranging between the solid masses of the Aconcagua and the Tupungato, where abound snows and glaciers.

Description of its course

It is born from the junction of the ríos of mow Vacas, tired Cuevas and Tupungato. This last brings most of its flow to him. Its higher valley has a profile in form of " U" , produced by the glacial erosion. Until Uspallata, it continues to increase its flow. It crosses the précordillère by the valley of Potrerillos and, after having crossed the procession of Cacheuta, it reaches the plain. There, it describes a large arc being directed towards the North-East and joined Bañados or Lagunas de Guanacache, on the level of the building drain of the system of Desaguadero.

Flow

It has a flow of 50 m ³ /seconde, comparable with half of the flow of the Marne to Paris, with however of forts low water level S in winter (from May to September). It provides water to the most important oasis of the province of Mendoza, that of the town of Mendoza.
