Río Mauri

The Río Mauri is a river of the Peru and Bolivia which is the most important affluent of the Río Desaguadero, emissary of the Lac Titicaca. It is born in Peru as an emissary from the lake from Huaytuta mountain and moves towards south-east. After having crossed the Bolivian border, it penetrates in the Département of Oruro, sprinkles the small town of Mauri which gave him its name, then the town of General Perez. Directed towards the east, then towards the North-East, it finishes its course while being thrown in the Río Desaguadero on the level of the locality of Calacoto.

It is the principal affluent of Desaguadero. Its medium flow is of 18 cubic meters a second, which is abundant for a river of the Altiplano.

Its basin recovers a small portion of the Chilean territory, where are born a series from small affluents. The use of water of the affluents of this portion of the basin by the Chilean ones was prone to dispute between the two countries, in 2005.
