Río Collón Curá

The Río Collón Curá is a river important and abundant of Argentine, affluent of the Río Limay. It is located in the south-west of the province of Neuquén, with the limit of the departments of Collón Curá and of Lácar, i.e. in the north-western area of the Patagonie.

Description

It results from the junction of the Río Aluminé, émissaitre of the Aluminated Lac and the Río Chimehuin, emissary of the Lac Huechulafquen. It is a river to the abundant flow which runs in broad and beautiful valley in North-South direction.

Running with the foot of the Andes, its course is fast. Its width is about 35 meters, with sometimes of important widenings and of the wide marshes. Its length is only of 40 kilometers, for which it is necessary to add the 160 of the Río Aluminé which represents in fact the higher course of Collón Curá.

The river forms many meanders. Its principal affluents come from right-hand side (on the side of the Andes) are the Quemquemtreu Stream and Río Caleufu.

The area

The lower section of Río Collón Curá is currently flooded (since 1993), over a length from 10 to 15 kilometers, because of construction of the stopping and the lake of Piedra del Águila downstream from the confluence, on the Río Limay.

The areas crossed by Río Collón Curá are very little populated. The only agglomeration so much is not very notable is the small town of Collón Curá, located left side of the river.

It should be added that the trunk road 40 skirts left bank of the river on all its course.

A very full of fish river

At the end of the summer the reproducers of the Truite fario ( trucha marrón ) go up the river in direction of the lakes Aluminé and Huechulafquen, coming from the Lac of Piedra del Águila. This period can give place to fishings records, more especially as these fish reach enormous weights several kilos, in the basin of this river.
