Río Bermejo-Vinchina

The Río Bermejo or Río Vinchina , in Argentine is the name given to the higher course of the Río Desaguadero .

It is born on the slopes from the peak from the Nacimiento del Bonete , in the North-West of the province of Rioja, close to the border with that of Catamarca to a few 5.500 m of altitude, in the Frontal Cordillera which precedes the Andes cordillera. In these quasi desert areas, it receives successively them names of Río de Oro , Río Bonete , of Río Jagüé , Río de Vinchina and Río Bermejo . It follows the direction south-south-east and traverses is province of San Juan where it penetrates in a zone depressed. Its water, united with those of the Río Jáchal and abundant the Río San Juan, forms a lake system called there Lagunas de Guanacache (system practically desiccated since one century).

Reinvigorated by these contributions, it continues its course under the name of Río Desaguadero.

The surface of its basin is of 36.968 km ².
