Rétrolien

A rétrolien (in English trackback ) is an semi-automated system of bonds inter blogs. It makes it possible to the authors to connect tickets of blogs different and speaking about the same subject, or referring (that it is unilateral or mutual, the second case being in practice very rare).

Concretely, the author of a blog has can establish a rétrolien towards a ticket of a blog B by making, in one of his own tickets on his blog has, a bond towards URL of the ticket of the blog B. If the blog B manages the rétroliens, it is automatically indicated in the ticket on the blog B that the blog has refers there. The reader of the ticket on the blog B can then discover the blog has and go there, thanks to this automatic bond. In the same way, the author of the blog B is informed that the author of the blog has is interested in his contents; the system of rétroliens is sometimes described as “social” because it allows virtual meetings.

Technically, a system of rétroliens consists of an intelligent detection of the bonds referents of a given page. The system detects the bonds coming from others blogs and in an attractive way with the readers handles them to post them. The current systems in general determine the source of the referents while being based on the software of blog used to create a rétrolien, and establish obviously a rétrolien only if this reference comes from a blog - it is not desirable to indicate all the bonds existing referents, which can amount per tens and are often useless to the readers. The system functions coarsely by sending a Ping between the blogs: it provides the automatic alarm of way thus. In addition to posting the bond towards the ticket and the blog referent, a system of rétroliens very often extracts some lines to present an outline of what is known as on the other blog. The rétrolien appears typically below a ticket, before or after the possible comments.

This approach of the “bond” on Internet is very specific to the blogs, but could be invited to evolve/move.

In a general way, the rétrolien is a solution (about aucuns would speak about Bidouille) with an essential limitation of the Web: the absence of bidirectionnality. The protocol XDI or, in a more radical way, the Projet Xanadu tries to be freed from this limitation.
