Rétiaire
The rétiaire (Retiarius) is a type of light Gladiateur. Its name derives from the Latin word retium , which wants to say net , the most spectacular element of its equipment.
Its opponents were the Mirmillon or the Secutor. The opposition of the rétiaire against the mirmillon composed a setting in scene where the humble fisherman, equipped with his net and his three-pronged fork, makes emerge a marine monster illustrated by the mirmillon.
Its armament characteristic made of the rétiaire a Emblem of gladiature.
