Réchésy

Réchésy is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort belonging to the canton of Delle.

The village is located at the borders of the department, the Suisse and the Département of Haut-Rhin. The terminal known as of the Three Powers recalls that Réchésy was, during 44 years, village border between the German Empire, which had annexed the Alsace, and the France. The village is sprinkled by the Vendline, a river taking its source close to the Swiss village of Vendlincourt. It is located at 430 meters of altitude, with 1km of the Swiss border, 10 km of Delle and 30 km of Belfort, chief town of the department. In 1803 the number of inhabitants was of 706, it passed to more than 1000 about the middle of the 19th century to slowly go down again to 551 the shortly after the last war.

History

The name of the village east quoted for the first time in 1291 in the form of Raschesi . One then meets it in a state of 1302 under the orthography Röchelis and Röschelim in 1441. In XIIIe century, the village forms a town hall depending on prévôté on Florimont. As of this time Réchésy has a church and constitutes a parish. Thereafter two vaults are evoked in the files, one is dedicated to the Three Kings and the other to Saint Nicolas's Day . A church, devoted to Notre-Dame of the Assumption , existed already in 1441. Become too small, it was replaced in the years 1850 by a larger building dedicated to Saint-Jean-Baptist . In the cemetery still a vault of the XVIIe century sheltering is a furnace bridge and a retable baroque. In 1782 the parish passed from the diocese of Basle to that of Besancon.
Statistics gone back to 1851 indicate that industry is represented by a mill and a tilery.
With the Release, at the end of November 1944, combat violent one took place in the sector of Suarce, Lepuix-Neuf and Réchésy.
