Rätikon

The Rätikon is a solid mass of the the central Eastern Alps. It rises between the Austria (Vorarlberg), the Liechtenstein and the Suisse (Canton of the Grisons), on Right Bank of the the Rhine.

It belongs to the the rhetic Alps from which it draws its name.

The Schesaplana is the culminating point of the solid mass.

Geography

Situation

The solid mass is surrounded by the Massif of Bregenzerwald in north, the Massif of Lechquellen in the North-East, the Massif of Verwall in the east, the solid mass of Silvretta in south-east, the Chaîne of Plessur in the south, the the Alps glaronaises in south-west and the Préalpes appenzelloises in the west.

Geology

The membership of Rätikon in the central Eastern Alps, which are in great majority made up of crystalline rocks, is purely geographical. Indeed, the solid mass, mainly made up of Calcareous, is geologically attached more to the septentrional Préalpes Eastern.
