Quirinal

The Quirinal ( Quirinalis Parcel in Latin, today: Quirinale ) is highest of the seven hills of Rome, and also more in north.

The hill would have been called thus in the honor of the god Quirinus, whose temple was held close to the Porte Quirinal. Quirinus itself would have derived from the quiris , the word sabin for a lance. Other versions note that the name of the hill could come from quernus (oak).

It is an irregularly narrow strip of land two kilometers length, separated from the Viminal by a depression. There was a rather major depression between the Capitole and Quirinal, which was dug during the construction of the Forum of Trajan, symbolized by the Colonne Trajane.

During the division of the city in areas by Auguste, Quirinal was in the area VI - Alta Semita , name coming from the main street which existed along the edge of the hill.

Many a temples was set up on Quirinal, which became one of the principal zones of residence for the rich person citizens.

It is with the Palais of Quirinal that resident the Presidents of the Italian Republic. By Métonymie, it thus indicates the Presidency.
