Quintana Roo
Quintana Roo is a State located at the south of the Mexico in the peninsula of the Yucatán. Surrounded by the State of Campeche, the Caribbean Sea and the Belize, Quitana Roo occupies a surface of 50.350km ².
The capital is Chetumal. Quintana Roo included/understood approximately 493 600 inhabitants in 2000.

The State includes/understands also two islands: the island of Cozumel and the island of the women (Isla Mujeres).
History
Formerly, this zone was inhabited by the Maya S.
Until 1974, Quintana Roo had the statute of Territory of the federation. It is in this year that it became the 31e State of Mexico.
