Tree of full sun originating in China, its major assets are its beautiful bark which is detached by plates with the manner of the Lagerstroemia, its small pink solitary flowers from approximately 2 to 3 centimetres appearing in April - May and its large fruits dark yellow ovals (from 10 to 18 cm) very aromatic which appear only if the tree had enough sun one cold season spring preceded.

Its thick, brilliant and persistent sheets are roughcast small prickles. They are renewed completely under the push of the new buds and have very beautiful colors of Fall (red brick).
