Quimper Communauté is a inter-commune structure French, located in the department of the Finistere and the area Brittany.

It is about a public corporation of inter-commune co-operation (EPCI) which gathers 7 communes in order to carry out development actions urban and of town and country planning.

Quimper Communauté is the second inter-commune structure most populated department of the Finistere, after Brest Métropole Océane.

Fields of intervention

Any EPCI must ensure of obligatory competences as well as optional competences to choose among several possible. The community can also retain other optional competences to reinforce its cohesion and its fields of intervention. Quimper Communauté chose to ensure:

• Protection and development of the environment and the framework of life
• Construction, installation, maintenance and management of Community equipment

The two most visible competences of the inhabitants are undoubtedly the organization and the financing of the network of Public transport Qub which serves all the Community territory, as well as the organization of the waste collection and processing.

History

• the first four common founders, Ergué-Gabéric, Guengat, Plogonnec and Quimper, gather on December 27th, 1993 to form a community of communes which will take the name of Quimper Communauté .
• on December 23rd, 1996, the Community territory grows rich by three new communes, Plomelin, Plonéis and Pluguffan. It will not evolve/move thereafter any more.
• Since January 1st, 2000, Quimper Communauté was transformed into community of agglomeration, while preserving its territorial limits.

The commune of Locronan which is located a few kilometres from that of Plogonnec requested from 2 recoveries its integration with the agglomeration quimpéroise, without success.
