Quilapayún is a Chilean group of Musique created with Santiago in 1965.

History

Group Chilean musicians created in 1965, the objective being to mix Andean traditional instruments with poetic or politically committed words. Approximately 35 albums, turned in more than 40 countries. Named in 1972 by Salvador Allende, president of the Republic of Chile, cultural ambassador, it was exiled and installed in France at the time of the assassination of this one in 1973. He also worked or collaborated with many personalities, such as Victor Jara, Jean-Louis Barrault, Leonard Berstein, Jon Voight, Jane Fonda, Mercedes Sosa, Daniel Mesguich, the Inti-Illimani group, Roberto Matta, Julio Cortazar, etc They played in France with many recoveries, in particular in Olympia, the Zenith and Bobino etc

QUILAPAYUN in 6 dates

1965 Birth of the Quilapayún group, inspired by the language mapuche of the Indians of the south: (quila = three, payún = bores).

1966 First Price with the 1st national festival of folklore “Multiple Chile”. Victor Jara who becomes their artistic director. they will record five albums.

1969 The group decides to mark an artistic turn, with the meeting of Shine Advis which will compose for them Cantata Santa Maria de Iquique. While including, the topics of social concerns, the group finds itself in the foreground of the political news, they collaborate in the political countryside which carries Salvador Allende to the presidency of Chile in 1971.

1973 Salvador Allende names Quilapayún Ambassadeur of Chile… At the end of August, they leave in European round: with two principal appointments 9, with the Festival from Humanity and the 15 in Olympia. The group was to return on September 24th, the history (on September 11th, 73) will decide some differently. military Coup d'etat of the generals directed by the General Pinochet. Victor Jara is carried out at the National Stage on September 16th. Pablo Neruda dies out on September 23rd. Fifteen years of exile start in France, they record more than thirty albums and furrow more than thirty countries in the whole world

1988 Returns of the Democracy to Chile Quilapayun play in all the Latin America

2003 In September participation in a giant spectacle with the memory of Salvador Allende with the resumption of “Cantata Santa Maria of Iquique” and an anthology of songs of the group. Follow other concerts to the United Kingdom, France, Ecuador, Argentina, Netherlands, Peru etc
