Questions for a champion
Questions for a champion is a Jeu televised, diffused on the French chain France 3 since November 7th 1988, repeated on TV5, and presented by Julien Lepers. It is inspired by the play Britannique, and is licensed product of the company. Four candidates are concerned and must, at the time of three successive sleeves, to answer questions of general culture. The least powerful competitor is eliminated at the end from each handle and gaining it is the last continuing candidate.
Course of the play
First sleeve: the Last nine gaining points . The four candidates must answer before the others with series of questions paying from one to three points, according to the difficulty. Are qualified the three first to reach nine points.Second handle: the Four after . Each candidate must first of all choose between the four questionnaires proposed. The first to be itself qualified thus has more choice. They then have 40 seconds to answer a maximum of consecutive questions. If they are mistaken or pass, they fall down to 0. The score, going from 0 to 4, represents the number of consecutive good answers. If a candidate succeeds in answering 4 consecutive questions, it does one “4 after”. The 2 candidates having obtained the most points are qualified for the Face-to-face discussion. In the event of equality, the candidates to be decided between must answer questions, and the first (or the two first if the three candidates are with equality) to arrive at two points gains.
Third handle: the Face-to-face discussion . He opposes the two candidates finalists. The presenter states the definition of a concept, a person, a place, etc the candidates must guess the object of the definition. The definition starts with difficult indices, then increasingly easy. The candidates can propose answers in turn, and the good answer is seen allotting between one and four points, according to the speed to which it was given. The first candidate to reach the twelve items (in the past nine) gains the part.
End of the play: the losers receive consolation prizes such as encyclopedias. Gaining receives 500 €, that it can decide to give concerned in order to increase its profits: 1.000 € for two victories, 2.000 € for three, 3.000 € for four and 4.000 € more the kitty for the five victories. If it succeeds in gaining five days of continuation, it gains the kitty, summons increasing daily and being able to reach several tens of thousands of euros.

An institution
In spite of its seniority, this play always knows important daily rates of audience. Many clubs of players were formed and remain active.Several reasons explain that:
- personality and the rate/rhythm printed by the organizer Julien Lepers;
- the relative difficulty of the questions implies that the winner is generally cultivated the most and fastest, the play leaving little place to the chance.
The emission gave place has many parodies, most famous being that of the Inconnus, entitled Questions for dough . The organizer Julien Lepers was also caricatured with many recoveries, because in particular of mannerisms and its artificial methods judged to maintain suspense during the part. It remains that, in the spirit of the televiewers, it is absolutely indissociable play, and forms with him a true popular institution of French television. The play reached its 5000e emission on October 17th 2005.
Several Derivative products was launched, in particular a Board game and a Video game.
