Querqueville

Querqueville is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.

Geography

Querqueville is located at the west of Equeurdreville-Hainneville. It forms part with the latter of the Urban community of Cherbourg since 1971.

History

The name of Querqueville comes from the norrois kirkja which means “vault”. Querqueville probably developed at the origin around the Saint-Germain vault, which is always reproduced on the blazon of the city.

  • Frigate Lucifer II : Failed on the beach of the Saltworks, the old anti-submarine frigate built in Scotland in 1943, had been transferred to the Free French Naval forces in October 1943 by Royal the navy and, renamed Découverte , takes part in the Débarquement in Normandy. Disarmed in 1959, it is useful between 1967 and 2002, of ground of exercises at the School of the sailors electrician-safety (EMES), becoming under the name of Lucifer II a symbol of the roads of Cherbourg by its regular volutes of black smoke. Its déconstruction and the depollution of the beach is envisaged in 2007.

The weapons of the commune are blasonnent as follows: “ Of mouth to the antique trifoliate vault of gold, the chief of azure charged with three gold bees”.
The vault is the Saint-Germain vault, and the 3 bees symbolize Napoleon {{Ier}}, which would have planned to buy the Castle.
