Queensrÿche
Queensrÿche is a group of Heavy traditional metal considered as one of the pioneers of the progressive Metal: a mixture of Heavy traditional metal and progressive Rock'n'roll. Their greater success remains Operation Mindcrime , a concept album of anthology.
History
After having played in several groups, Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton decides, in 1981 in Seattle, to form a group which will compose of the original songs, the duet recruits friends of school then, Geoff Tate, Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield. After having polished their songs during nearly 2 years, the new group records, product and puts on the market (via their own recording company - 206 Records) a cassette - demonstration of 4 songs. Helped by a couple (Kim & Diana Harris) record dealer, the cassette starts to circulate in the American North-West like in Canada. Having sold nearly 60000 copies of the demonstration, the group succeeds in drawing the attention of the recording company EMI, which puts on the market the first EP of the group: Queensrÿche , which will reach the 81e position of the Billboard . Then, the group produces 2 other albums which will be more or less success: The Warning and Rage for order. In 1988, Queensrÿche leaves Operation: Mindcrime , an album encensé by criticism and being an obvious business success. Album-concept builds on the history of a junkie which is handled to make assassinations for a movement underground ; the accro is torn between its honesty for the cause and its love for a ex-prostitute become sister. Operation: Mindcrime is often compared with others other albums concepts such as The Wall of Pink Floyd or Tommy of The Who, and inspired good number of current groups (for example Dream Theater with the album Metropolis Pt. 2).
Empire (1990) is an album quite as popular and it is distinguished on the British prize lists. The song Silent lucidity will be besides an enormous tube in the USA. In 1992, the group records a session of the famous MTV Unplugged , but this concert will never leave out of CD; certain titles were however added in no-claims bonus in the republications of the albums in 2003; in the same way on the DVD Building one Worsens can see a few pieces. At the time of the publication of Promised Land in 1994, the musical genre of Queensrÿche is obscured by the Grunge and the alternative music. Despite everything, Promised Land becomes a business success thanks to its immense mass of admirors. It becomes also the album which reaches more the high levels with the prize list for the group, it climbs until in 3rd position of the Billboard 200 .
The following album, Hear in the now frontier (1997), receives a mitigated reception. The label of the group goes bankrupt and the album does not manage to be sold. Very disappointed commercial result, and because it had been the main thing compositeurde this disc (thus, total personal failure), Chris DeGarmo leaves the group then and is replaced by Kelly Gray for the album Q2K into 1999 which will be a failure. In 2002, the group signs with the company of disc Sanctuary Records for the next albums. Queensrÿche leaves in round with Iron Maiden and puts on the market an album compilation.
In 2003, the group writes a new album: Tribe . Chris DeGarmo, which since the separation of the group continues a career of professional pilot, contributes as artist invited to the composition of 4 songs. Kelly Gray is replaced by Mike Stone like 2nd guitarist.
With the autumn 2004, the group includes the road with the round An evening with Queensrÿche ( One evening with Queensrÿche ) in which the group plays a first part made up of success and a second part putting in scene the album Operation: Mindcrime , thanks to actors and with vidéos. Pamela Moore, begins again for the round, its role of Sister Mary. In the second part of the round (at the beginning of 2005) in North America, Queensrÿche joins the British group Judas Priest. The group plays during nearly one hour their old successes like three new parts: I' m american , Hostage and One foot in Hell .
The group announces in 2004 qu ' it plans to record the continuation of Operation: Mindcrime , their album-concept encensé by criticism. Operation: Mindcrime 2 , leaves in 2006. The album tries to answer the many questions left in seedling at the time of the first album. This album is the first of the group on the company of disc Rhino Records, with which they signed in 2005. Nevertheless, the result does not enchant anybody, not even the keenest fans.
In 2007, a new compilation, " Sign Off The Times" , leaves with second Cd containing the demonstrations Myth, the group before Queensrÿche where Geoff Tate sang, like various scarcities and no-claims bonus. In November 2007 will leave " Take Covers" , a heteroclite album of recoveries.
Queensrÿche is the first group to use the dieresis on the letter there . As Tate likes to say it: “We spent 11 years to be tried to explain how to pronounce it”.
For a more general significance of the use of this dieresis in the names of groups of heavy metal, to see the article (in English) on wikipedia.
