Queensland League Rugby
The Queensland Rugby League ( QRL ) is the authority which manages the Rugby with XIII in the Queensland (Australia). The QRL is member of the Australian Rugby League.
History
Quickly after Sydney and News-Wales of the south, the dissidents join Brisbane and Queensland. Jack Fihelly (future Australian Labor minister), international of XV will be the first contact.
At the beginning of 1908, some players in conflict with the Queensland Rugby Union decide to play new Rugby. One of between-them, Simon Bowland sent to some convocations to the promising futures players of the new Rugby: Georges Watson, Jack O' Connor, Mickey Gild, Buck Buchanan, Alf Faulmer and of course Jack Fihelly. This last is charged in the greatest secrecy, to set up the bases of néo-Rugby at Brisbane. March 28th, 1908, the QRL is created. The contacts of Fihelly Jack with the Baskerville New Zealander succeeded quickly. Of return in England, All Golds stop in Brisbane. On Saturday, May 16, 1908, the Queensland meeting - New Zealand is held in Brisbane.
The Australian Workers party (Australian Labor Party) will support the development of Rugby with XIII in Queensland, because this one provided for the needs for the players, therefore workers. In May 1909, North Brisbane, Toombull, Valley, South Brisbane and Milton will be the first clubs which will dispute the first championship of Queensland.
Today, the QRL manages the various regional championships and the Queensland Maroons.
