Quebec alliance
Alliance Quebec (AQ) was a group formed in 1982 to defend the rights of the english-speaking of the Province of Quebec. Initially a regrouping of associations of English language, it had approximately 15.000 members at its best days.
The initial enthusiasm which nourished the movement is blurred when the interest of the Canadian public for the linguistic causes decreased.
The continuations carried out by the AQ and the militancy of its chiefs (especially the author William Johnson) put association in opposition with the Québécois nationalists. The number of members had lowered to 1.500 in 2002.
The AQ ceased its activities in 2005 when the Canadian Ministère of the inheritance put an end to its subsidies, which counted for 90% of its financing.
