Quarrel of Lullystes and Ramistes

The quarrel of Lullystes and Ramistes is an esthetic controversy which shook the musical world Parisian starting from 1733 (creation date of Hippolyte and Aricie , the lyric first tragedy of Rameau) and which opposed the defenders of the traditions of the royal Académie of music, faithful to the esthetics of Jean-Baptiste Lully, and regarding the style of Jean-Philippe Rameau as too “Italian”, with the partisans of this one, dazzled by its genius and recognizing the richness and complexity this new music. The musical quarrel was completed when the king Louis XV took Rameau with his service.
