Quark bottom

The quark bottom (often shortened in quark b) is a Quark, a Elementary particle of the Physique of the particles.

Properties

Like all the quarks, the quark bottom is a Fermion. It is about a quark of 3rd generation having a electric Charge of - ⅓ E. With a mass of 4 GeV. C -2 (4 times that of the Proton), the quark bottom is the 5th heaviest quark, being exceeded only by the quark signal .

The antiparticle of the quark bottom is the antiquark bottom , of electric charge ⅓ E.

The quark bottom was discovered with the Fermilab in 1977. It was a time question of naming it quark “beauty”, but pragmatism ends up taking the step on the poetic license.

High-energy particles

Among the High-energy particle S containing one or more quarks bottom , one can quote:
  • the Meson S B, containing a quark or a antiquark bottom and a quark up or down ;
  • the mesons Bc and Bs, containing a quark bottom and respectively a quark charm and strange ;
  • there exist several examples of Quarkonium bottom (a meson made up of a quark bottom and its clean antiquark), such as for example the meson Υ;
  • of the Baryon S bottom was observed and is named by analogy with baryons strange (for example Λb+).
