Qualitative variable
, In statistical is said, of a Variable for which the Valeur measured on each Individu (sometimes qualified Catégorie or of Modalité) does not represent a Quantité. One cannot then calculate a total for a Ensemble individuals. The qualitative variables are opposed to the quantitative variable .
One distinguishes the particular case from the ordinal variable which are qualitative variables numerical. Example of the appreciation of the customers for a product, which one can note of -2 (very bad) to +2 (excel), while passing by zero (indifferent).
