Quai de parks

A quay of station is an installation in a railway Gare, a station of Métro or a stop of Tramway, parallel with the Railway and giving access to the cars.

Generally, the stations have at least a quay, largest having the many ones.

Characteristics

The least elaborate form is the quay being at the same level as the Voie. That poses a problem of access to the cars (presence of steps, notable difficulties for the elderly and to reduced mobility) and of safety (not of clear separation between way and quay). A great number of stops of train are still in this situation and do not have quay with standard height. The majority of the stations and stops have a standard quay today, a height ranging between 40 and 80 cm above the ways. The level of the quay is certainly higher than the way, but less than the floor of the cars. It thus remains to assemble some steps to reach the oars.

It is however utopian of " rêver" of a quay which would make it possible to enter of balance the cars (it is however the case for quays of Métro, the RER or Tramway): the SNCF has a park of oars so diversified which it is impossible to harmonize the height of the quays to all the cars. It is thus a standard height which was selected.

It will be noted that certain particular cases:

  • the Dutch stations or those of dB `' Regionalbahn Westfalen'' chose a quay which is located above the floor of the oars. It is thus necessary to go up to leave the train.
  • certain oars of Tram-train are equipped with a removable walk making it possible to fill the vacuum between the quay and the oar. This “retractable walk” is spread at the time of the opening of the door and retracts at the time once the locked door. The installation of this device is related to the fact that downtown, space between the quay and the oar of tram are negligible; what is not any more the case when the oar approaches the quay of a network ferrovaire.

Equipment of the quays

The level of equipment of the quays is directly dependant on the frequentation of the station and her traffic.

Equipment of the quays of stations of great or average importance

  • in these stations, the ways are generally above the mean level of the ground; the access to the quays is thus done by a staircase or Ascenseur (for the people with mobility reduced or equipped with cumbersome luggage).
  • one or more daters. These machines validate the transport document by inscription of a code and a form in Taille-douce (relief) on this one. The code gathers the name of the station, hour and the starting day. On the old daters (of orange color), the machine cut out an arc of circle in edge of the ticket and mentioned the code of the station and the day of the year.
  • of the urban Movable : seats, benches, waiting room, hood, waste baskets, billboards enlightened, heating columns (use in winter), public lighting.
  • an information system to the passengers made up of luminous tables (or mechanics) indicating the time of departure of the train, the principal served stops, the station of terminus. Other screens make it possible to know the time of departure of the next trains on the whole of the station. These screens are generally located at the foot of the staircases, on the quays.
  • of the loudspeakers allowing the diffusion of messages of information in completely automated audio form: departure of the next train, announces delays, incidents, commercial information. The advertisements are preregistered and diffused via a computing system. This system is the same one in all the stations the SNCF of great or average importance.
  • of the panels mentioning the name of the station (in capital letters white on blue bottom)
  • a panel recapitulating all the relations on departure and arrival of the station (“arrived” posters and “departures”)
  • of the luminous screens detailing the composition of the trains (number of the train, parks terminus, many cars, placement on the quay, classification of the cars, type of engine), coupled to panels of marking out placed at regular intervals on the quay. These panels (numbered letter R with letter Z) make it possible to locate the site of a car on the totality of a train. They also make it possible to the passengers on standby on the quay to be placed closest to their site of voyage.
  • finally, one or more clocks (numerical or analogical), all synchronized enters.

In certain large stations, one also finds the office of the Chief of quay or the Chef of stopover to very the quay.

Equipment of the quays of stations of low importance

  • for these types of stations, the equipment will be reduced to the presence of urban furniture, loudspeakers, one or more daters and a clock.
  • of the panels mentioning the name of the station (in capital letters white on blue bottom)
  • the information system to the passengers will be simplified and updated manually by the Chief of quay or the Station master

In the specific case of the stations Transilien or the RER, the quay is also equipped with a system of Vidéosurveillance with screens placed at the ends of the quay. This system makes it possible the driver of the oar to control the descent and the rise of the travellers.

Equipment of the quays of the stops

  • a hood with a bench, a waste basket
  • a panel mentioning the name of the stop (in capital letters white on blue bottom)
  • a Distributer simplified of transport documents allowing the user to buy his ticket. If necessary, it will be able to acquire it near the Sales representative (or Contrôleur) on train, which will carry out the composting and the checking of the ticket consequently occasion.

Equipment of the quays of the subway stations

It is difficult to make a complete typology and commune with all the networks of subway. Nevertheless, one will be able to retain the elements following, present on the majority of the networks:
  • the characteristic of the subway being to circulate under ground, the access to the stations is a paramount aspect. However, the depth of the stations is not the same one everywhere, the descent is thus done by the means appropriate to the topography of the places: staircases, elevators, escalators, travelators.
  • of the daters or gantries of composting. The latter bar the access to the station physically as long as the transport document (ticket, ticket, magnetic card, smart card, etc) was not presented to the apparatus.
  • of urban furniture: seats, benches, waste basket; but also a plan of district, a plan of the urban network and interurban, commercial information on the tariffs and subscriptions.
  • one or more platform alarm boxes allowing, in the event of incident, to join the station of safety or the Regulating of the network.
  • an information system to the passengers (recent innovation), indicating time remaining until the arrival of the next oars.
  • of the loudspeakers allowing the diffusion of messages of information or commercial.
  • of the panels mentioning the name of the station, the exits, the directions of the correspondences, the zones of stopping of the oars and various information.
  • of the billboards (often of size 4x3m).

In the case of automated lines (of type VALLEY), the quays will be separated from the ways by glazed walls equipped with automatic sliding doors. At the time of the entry in station, the oar stops opposite the doors, which returns the surer descent, rise and waiting (more falls on the way).

Equipment of the quays of the stops of tram

There still, because of the great diversity of the networks and the owners, it is difficult to make an exact typology with all the networks of tram. One will generally find:
  • a quay with the free air and level (not of walk enters the oar and the quay).
  • one or more daters, although the latter are sometimes in the oars even.
  • of urban furniture: seats, benches, waste basket; but also a plan of district, a plan of the urban network and interurban, commercial information on the tariffs and subscriptions.
  • a distributer of transport documents.
  • an information system to the passengers generally made up of screens indicating the state of the traffic, the latency of the next oars, the destination of these oars.
  • of the loudspeakers allowing the diffusion of messages of information or commercial.
  • of the panels mentioning the name of the line and the stop of tram.
