Québécois by-election of 2004
The Québécois by-election of 2004 was held the 20 September 2004. It aimed at electing four deputies following various resignations. They are the Député S of the district of Gouin, Bay-tree-Dorion, Nelligan and Vanier.
The poll allowed the election the National Assembly of Quebec of the pequists Nicolas Girard (Gouin) and Elsie Lefebvre (Bay-tree-Dorion), of the liberal Yolande James (Nelligan) and of the adequist Sylvain Légaré (Vanier).
Context
August 1st The last advertisement of election, that of the district of Gouin, was made the 18 August 2004 following the the Council of MinistersThe Liberal party of Quebec begins the countryside with a length in advance on the other parties. Indeed, having been able to decide date of the election, its four candidates are selected at the time of the beginning of the countryside. Jean Charest benefitted besides from it to begin the countryside by attacking its adversaries about their constitutional position. According to him, “the Québécois Party has only one idea, the sovereignty of Quebec, and the democratic Action does not have any”. Bay-tree-Dorion
This district, represented by the Liberal party of Quebec since its creation in 1994, was left vacant the 17 June 2004 by the departure of Christos Sirros, identified with the left wing of the liberal party.The candidate pequist Elsie Lefebvre took everyone by suprise by gaining the victory over the liberal Voula Neofotistos.
Nelligan
In the district of Nelligan, the Liberal party of Quebec must counter the grogne defusionnists, who strongly supported it on the last elections, because of the candidature of an independent candidate, Michel Gibson. At the end of the campaign, the parties delivered a thankless struggle by deploying all their energies to charm the district.
