Qazvin

Qazvin قزوین is a town of Iran located at the west of Teheran and the foot of the mounts Elbourz. Qazvin is the capital of the province bearing its name.

History

Qazvin would have been founded by Shapur {{Ier}}, under the name of Shahd-e Shahpur . Devastated many times by the Dailamites, badgered by the Assassins with the valley close to Alamut, destroyed twice by the Mongolian , it become the first capital of the empire Safavide of 1555 with 1597. The city declines gradually, becomes again prosperous under the Qajars, but suffers from the Soviet occupation during the Second world war.

Traditional tanks

With the Middle Ages, Qazvin was called the “city with the water tanks”. On the hundred water tank of Qazvin, only 10 all survive today, protected by the provincial Organization from the Cultural Heritage. Those are:

  • Tank Molla Verdikhani
  • Tank Sardar-e-Bozorg
  • Tank Sardar-e-Kuchak
  • Tank Bazaar
  • Tank Aga
  • Tank Hadj Kazem
  • Tank Hakim

Old doors of the city and another popular buildings

IXe century, seven doors allowed the entry in the city. At the Qajare period, there existed 9 doors around the city, connected by a rampart which protected the city. These doors ( darvāzeh into Persan) were:

  2. Sheikh Abad
  3. Rasht
  4. Maghlävak
  5. Khandaghbar
  6. Shahzadeh Hossein
  7. Mossala
  8. Tehran
  9. Räh E Koushk

Because of the urban developments at the 20th century, there remain unfortunately only two doors.
