Qûtb ud-DIN Aibak

Qutb ud-DIN Aibak is a governor of the Moslem India, then first sultan of Delhi (1206 - 1210) and founder of the Dynastie of the Slaves, also known under the name of dynasty of Muizzî.

Qûtb ud-DIN Aibak, a member of the tribe of Aybak, is born with the Turkestan. Child, it is captured and sold like Esclave with Nishâpur, changes Master and passes to the service of Muhammad Ghûrî, which, since its area of Ghor in the center of the Afghanistan, had made the conquest of Ghaznî, of Multân, of the Sind, Lâhore and Delhi. Qûtb ud-DIN Aibak, which had known a spectacular rise, outgoing row to become general and right-hand man of Muhammad, person in charge of its Indian campaigns, period when he is his greater military successes, and of the administration of its Indian possessions when Muhammad turns its attention on the Central Asia after the Second battle of Tarâin, starting from 1192. It reaches then quasi a position of viceroy of Muhammad on his Indian grounds, represses revolts with Ajmer (1192) and Mirâth (1194), lends assistance to Muhammad to beat the Râja Jayachandra of Kânauj, devastation the gangetic flat , then carries out a victorious forwarding against the râja Bhîma Deva of the Goujerat. Died of Muhammad, which disappears without heir, it succeeds to him, after a short fight for the capacity, and reigns on the grounds of its predecessor except those of Central Asia which are conquered by Gengis Khan.

During its four years reign, it makes watch of qualities of administrator, and he is the true founder of the Moslem power in India, regarding himself as the leader of the country which is not regarded any more henceforth by the Moslems as a reserve of plundering. Aibak moves the capital of its empire of Ghaznî to Lâhore, then, later with Delhi. It started the construction of the first Moslem monuments of the city, like the mosque Quwaat ul-Islâm and the Qûtb Minâr, which are completed by its successor Iltutmish. He is known, during his reign, under the name of “Lac Baksh”, donor of Lakh , because of his generosity. Qûtb ud-DIN Aibak dies accidentally in 1210, during a match of sports shirt, crushed by its horse after a fall. It is buried close to the bazaar of Anarkali with Lâhore. Its tomb having been destroyed at the time the attack of the Moghol S on the city 1241, a new mausoleum was built above its tomb during Années 1970.
