Pyrrhotite

The pyrrhotite is a Sulfure of Fer running in the Nature, of formula Fe1-xS , 0 Pyrrhotite exists in several polytypes with typical composition in the Fe1-xS field which differs by scheduling from the cations and the gaps, always in a structure basic Nickéline:

* polytype 4 M (Fe7S8) Groupe of space has 2 has
* polytype 5 H (Fe9S10)
* polytype 6 H (Fe11S12).

The majority of pyrrhotites seem to be a inter-growth of the polytypes 4 M and 5 H .

The typical genesis is magmatic; hydrothermal genesis being less common.

The Co-growth of pyrrhotite and Pentlandite is called “pyrrhotite nickélifère”.

Even if it is less common than Pyrite or Chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite is component important in certain basic plutonic complexes. It is also a additional Minéral in the veins of high temperature, like Pegmatite S of tin and the veins of Or - quartz.
