Puyricard
Agglomeration depending on the town of Aix-en-Provence and located at the north of this one.
Geographical location
Puyricard is located between Venelles and Éguilles, in the department of the Rhone delta and in the Canton of Aix-en-Provence - the North-East.
History
Even if a church is attested on the soil of Puyricard as of the 11th century, it seems that a former building was drawn up there. The Latin name of the hamlet is Podium Ricardi (“Castrum of Ricard”, of the name of a local lord).A good part of the soil of Puyricard was property of the family of the Beams.
Economy
The village gave its name to the famous Puyricard chocolate factory, whose seat is located a little in periphery, on the road of Aix-en-Provence. This chocolate factory, founded in 1967 by the Belgian family Roelandts, is very famous in the south of France, with shops in the big cities of the area, and two shops in Paris.
