Purple
The Purple , color of the Violet, is generally used to name a whole beach of colors, Améthyste (which implies a transparency) with the Zinzolin.
Definition
The purple is a Couleur, made up of a mixture of Bleu (approximately 50% of luminosity) and of red (approximately 25% of luminosity) in additive synthesis, and of a magenta mixture of (approximately 100%) and of Cyan (approximately 50%) in subtractive synthesis (pigments).
It is the last color of the Arc-en-ciel. The band violet of the spectrum lies roughly between the wavelengths of 380 and 445 Nm.
It is more saturated that the mauve .
Pigments
The purple one is a rare color in a natural state. The majority of the purple pigments are thus products of synthesis. Formerly one used the bilberry juice to color fabrics in purplished blue.
- the purple one of manganese is a purple pigment drawing on the crimson, formulates NH4MnP2O7.
- the purple allyltoluidin known under the name of mauvéïne is a Oxyde of Aniline used to dye fabrics.
- the purple 23 is a base of dioxazine: C34P22C12N4O2
- However the majority of the purple dye S are in fact of the mixtures of Bleu S, Magenta S and Pourpre S in varied proportions.
Reagents pH
Several indicating of pH has a phase violet, either in neutral medium, or in basic medium, they are the purple Méthyl (Violet of gentian), the Bleu of bromophenol (bbp), the Rouge Congo, the Azolitmine (paper sunflower), the Pourpre of bromocrésol, and the Alizarine.
The red cabbage juice is an indicator of pH easy to use at home. In neutral medium it naturally purple or blue is purplished. It becomes blue in saline medium, then transfers with the green and the yellow in an increasingly basic medium. Conversely in acid medium it transfers mauve with the red. It contains Anthocyane S, which are natural acido-basic indicators.
The purple one in Printing works
Even if the mixture 100% Magenta 50% Cyan is supposed to give the purple one, it is only one simulation, the color violet with the reputation to be impossible to reproduce with only the Quadrichromie. Indeed, separation quadri is only one approximation and the whole of the Couleur S reproduced by Quadrichromie represents only one small portion of all the visible colors. The purple one obtained by quadrichromy is thus always approximate, approaching more to the cherry juice or the Bordeaux wine. To obtain a purple truth in printing works, it is necessary to resort to special inks, in particular the Pantone Pourpre and purple Pantone which offer nuances of purple pure.
Here an example of difference between a purple naturalness and its simulation in quadrichromy. On the left it is about purple saturated RVB made up of 100% with blue and 75% of red. On the right it is this same purple separate in quadrichromy, which gives 51% of cyan and 65% of magenta. As one can see it, separation quadri does not manage to restore purple pure.
Symbolic system
-
In the Western Symbolic system, the purple one is associated with the nobility and the jealousy.
- In esotericism, it is the color of the Initiation.
- In the Catholic religion, the color violet is carried by the bishop (Soutane, camail and cap). It is carried by the priest during the Avent (4 Sunday S preceding Christmas) and the Lent. It symbolizes also the Pénitence and the Deuil.
- In the code of colors of electrical resistances and the condensers, the color violet corresponds to figure 7, the multiplier x10, an accuracy of 0,1% and a temperature coefficient of 5ppm. In the standard CEI 60757, one names it VT (abbreviation of purple).
- the purple ribbon bent on the gibus of the conscript caladois indicates the 70 years age
- the “Purple Heart” is an American military decoration with the purple ribbon
- With the American poker, the tokens of color violet correspond traditionally to 500$
- In the Faluche, the purple one is the color of the circular of the die sciences when this one is out of satin and of surgery-dental when the ribbon is in velour.
- In policy, the French political party liberal Alternative chose the purple one like color, like mixes of blue and red, to indicate its center character.
