The diagram is the representation of an object by its projection on 3 plans: technical design used by the Carpenter, it enables him to find the cuts necessary to the realization of its Charpente. It is also used to him to estimate the wood cubage which it will need to cut its work.
A surface of diagram is constituted in several parts:
-
the sight in plan, which makes it possible to locate the work to be cut and to give a base to the drawing,
- rises, which make it possible to locate each side of roof in a sight, which facilitates the reading, allows the layout of the piece of wood and also gives its true length.
There exist two different methods to trace a diagram:
-
rembarrement, the most known technique
- the harrow, method which treats the pieces of wood in plan (flat), in order to simplify the cuts and to make them very precise.
There exist three methods different in the feature from frame:
- rembarrement, the various cuts are found on the sight in plan (requires to trace the thicknesses of wood) and are rembarrées of rise.
- the grasshopper, the cuts are found by making cross the various plans that the faces of wood form.
- alignment, mixes of the two preceding techniques.
